Saturday Evening

Sitting alone

on a queen size bed

pretending

Mount Hood

As seen from my airplane  -  

A lost stump in a long line of 

forgotten mountains.

Sunburn

Pink skin stretched tight.  

It hurts to laugh or cry 

and so I sit still.

Monday Morning

The low hum of car tires

on asphalt lull me from

bed to greet the day.

Settling

The house creeks like

the bones in my knees

as I kneel to pray.

Clean

Fresh, crisp air

full of morning dew.  Not yet

tainted by pollution.

Dawn

Porch lights left on

no longer give off their

comforting glow.

Dawn Approaches

All that is left 

behind are droplets of dew 

on blades of grass.

Sparrows

chirps growing bolder

the sun makes her appearance 

on the horizon

Battle

Two birds swirl and dive

in the air to claim the first branch.

King for the day.

Sunrise

Slowly the sun
grasps the mountain cliffs and peaks
over the valley.

Wedding Day

forgotten heels left 

beside the cake while the bride 

flexes her arches

Blackout

a single candle burns 

while a black blanket

covers the city

Moonlight

hidden shadows dance 

across my lawn playing with 

what might be out there

Nightmares

waking up drenched

shaking like a guitar string

dark resonating

Waking

today I woke
eyes cracked,
heavy from missing you


   

Sickness

Each day I hack and

Cough and snuffle the mucus

In my nose and throat

Cowboys

Chaps and hats, tight jeans

Riding broncos and bucking

Bulls.  They are real men.

Sunset

She bows gracefully

At the end of the evening,

Welcoming the night.

High School

Crowded halls.  Strutting

Students mark territory

Like male dogs in heat.
